Happy New Year 2018

Happy New Year once again from Mendocino, on our annual end of the year retreat of staring at the ocean, crackling fires, along with some wining and dining! I look forward each year capturing the year’s events and celebrating the growth of our beautiful family, which by the way will be growing by one more this coming June. Trich and Joel are expecting a baby girl, making her our 10th grandchild!

With news of life, we have news of passing. We lost Robert’s mom, Ana Marie Hill, in November. She was 96, and she had almost all of her children by her side, in her home, and Art in flight from Panama. She lived an amazing life and I’m very fortunate to have been a part of it. We saw Coco a couple weeks later, clinching our hearts around family and culture.

Robert and I went to Mexico City this last year, getting together and reconnecting with family living there, and of course exploring the cuisine, the beacon of our trips! We also venture off on our own with Robert back in Spain and a return to Mexico for me, with Alisha joining me for a little beach resorting followed by me on my own sneaking back to San Miguel de Allende for some language practice.

Other big news, includes Eric becoming Dr. Eric Common, having completed his doctorate in special education and getting his first professorship at the University of Michigan at Flint. I’m a proud mama!

It has been a blast watching the twins move through their 2nd year. Kodak moments are hard to capture—they are so busy and often going in opposite directions . . .  it definitely takes a village. Siena and Gemma turn 2 years old on January 25 and their joyful big brother, Carter turns 7 in April. Having him at my school is definitely the best part of being a principal.

The most shocking news is having a granddaughter about to turn 14! Yikes! I actually gave her “real” make up for Christmas (not pretend!). She has grown into a beautiful young woman, still, quite the athlete playing soccer and volleyball. Logan is turning 12 and is an avid Warriors’ fan, playing basketball and baseball. They love skiing in the winter too. Shauna has been pouring herself into Kaiser’s Northern California Nurses Association bargaining team while keeping up with the busy lives of pre-teenagers.

Justin, our oldest, 26 next month is our world traveler. He just moved home after living and working for a stint in Australia. Paige, almost 11, too is an avid Athlete playing soccer, basketball, and softball, keeping Chelsea busy on the homefront.

RJ, 8 years and Dylan 6 years are expecting a baby sister in June. The boys attend a dual language school in San Francisco, and hopefully will be talking with BaPa in Spanish soon. The boys are big Giant fans and also play baseball and soccer. Dylan takes after his BaPa becoming quite the foodie—ordering himself some escargot, relishing every bite—Bobby too!

Amber and Steve are still in Oregon and are Emergency Foster Care parents, taking in children with immediate placement needs due to a crisis. God bless them!

We are so very proud of our kids and our grandkids, their accomplishments, and love of life.
I know holiday letters can be a bore to read and know it’s mainly for me, but I just can’t resist sharing an update with family and friends and of course adding Grammy’s Brag Book. So take a peek below.

Meanwhile, we wish you all a very Happy 2018. Please stay in touch . . . gotta love the internet to keep us connected!

With Joy and Love,
Pam and Robert
